چکیده

Systems need to be updated to last for a long time in a dynamic environment, and to cope with changing requirements. It is important for updates to preserve the desirable properties of the system under update, while possibly enforcing new ones. Here we consider a simple yet general update mechanism, which replaces a component of the system with a new one. The context, i.e., the rest of the system, remains unchanged. We de ne contexts and components as Constraint Automata interacting via either asynchronous or synchronous communication, and we express properties using Constraint Automata too. Then we build most general updates which preserve speci c properties, considering both a single property and all the properties satis ed by the original system, in a given context or in all possible contexts.

CISS: An Efficient Object Clustering Framework for DHT-Based Peer-to-Peer Applications

In most DHT-based peer-to-peer systems, objects are totally declustered since such systems use a hash function to distribute objects evenly. However, such an object de-clustering can result in significant inefficiencies in advanced access operations such as multi-dimensional range queries, continuous updates, etc, which are common in many emerging peer-to-peer applications. In this paper, we pr...

2-stage explicit total variation diminishing preserving Runge-Kutta methods

In this paper, we investigate the total variation diminishing property for a class of 2-stage explicit Rung-Kutta methods of order two (RK2) when applied to the numerical solution of special nonlinear initial value problems (IVPs) for (ODEs). Schemes preserving the essential physical property of diminishing total variation are of great importance in practice. Such schemes are free of spurious o...

An efficient nonstandard numerical method with positivity preserving property

Classical explicit finite difference schemes are unsuitable for the solution of the famous Black-Scholes partial differential equation, since they impose severe restrictions on the time step. Furthermore, they may produce spurious oscillations in the solution. We propose a new scheme that is free of spurious oscillations and guarantees the positivity of the solution for arbitrary stepsizes. The...

Towards a Semantic Preservation System

This document discusses the status of the Defuddle parser and recent work conducted as part of the “Innovative Systems and Software: Applications to NARA Research Problems” project. Preserving access to file content requires preserving not just bits but also meaningful logical structures. The ongoing development of the Data Format Description Language (DFDL) is a completely general standard tha...
